Our client is a well-established, dedicated out-of-hours emergency service supporting a network of local practices across Cambridgeshire. Purpose-built for emergency and critical care, the hospital operates exclusively overnight, allowing the clinical team to focus entirely on urgent and critical cases without the pressures of daytime GP workflow.

The service is known for its experienced ECC team, strong clinical governance, and continuity of care, providing a calm, professional environment where emergency clinicians are trusted to make decisions and manage cases thoroughly. Investment in equipment, systems, and people ensures a consistently high standard of emergency medicine and surgery.

This is a permanent Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon position, working a structured night rota designed to promote sustainability and work–life balance.

The rota consists of 13-hour night shifts, averaging 9 shifts across a 4-week rotation. The role involves consulting, diagnostic workups, and full medical and surgical case management overnight.

The caseload is primarily cats and dogs, with the occasional rabbit and very rare exotics. Clinically, the work blends GP-style emergencies with more advanced ECC medicine and surgery. The night vet takes genuine ownership of cases, including periods of sole charge, while remaining part of a wider, highly capable ECC team that ensures support, continuity, and handover.

This role will suit a confident emergency clinician who enjoys autonomy, decision-making, and running cases through to a high standard.

• RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon

• Comfortable managing medical and surgical emergencies independently

• Confident working nights and taking case ownership

Previous out-of-hours or ECC experience is essential.
