As Head Veterinary Surgeon, you will serve as the senior clinical authority within the practice. This position blends hands-on veterinary care with strategic leadership responsibilities.
You will:
Provide expert diagnosis, treatment, and surgical care across a varied caseload
Oversee complex medical and surgical cases as the lead clinician
Establish and maintain clinical protocols, standards of care, and safety procedures
Ensure compliance with RCVS and relevant regulatory requirements
Lead clinical audits, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
Supervise and mentor associate veterinarians, nurses, and support staff
Conduct performance reviews and support professional development
Lead clinical meetings, training sessions, and continuing education
Partner with practice leadership to optimize workflow and operational efficiency
Monitor clinical budgets, inventory, and key performance indicators
Act as the primary contact for escalated client communications and ethical matters
This is a leadership role with genuine influence over clinical direction and team development.
You are an experienced veterinary professional who thrives in both clinical and leadership capacities.
You bring:
DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree
Active UK veterinary licence in good standing
5–7+ years of progressive clinical experience, including leadership responsibilities
Strong medical and surgical proficiency
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Confidence in mentoring and guiding a clinical team
Business awareness and understanding of practice performance metrics
A calm, decisive approach — particularly in high-pressure situations
Integrity, empathy, and commitment to continuous professional growth
Advanced training or board certification is welcomed but not required.
