Our client has just opened a brand-new, purpose-built emergency and referral hospital in Melbourne’s northern growth corridor, designed to deliver exceptional patient care across general practice, emergency, and specialist referral services.
This modern facility has been thoughtfully developed to support collaboration between teams while delivering high standards of clinical care. The hospital will provide an integrated service where specialists, emergency clinicians, and general practitioners work closely together to ensure continuity of care for patients and referring veterinarians.
The purpose-built site will feature dedicated surgical suites designed for complex soft tissue, orthopaedic, and minimally invasive procedures, supported by advanced diagnostic capabilities including digital radiography, ultrasound, and an in-house laboratory, with future CT capability planned.
You’ll be supported by a highly skilled ECC team providing 24/7 care, along with experienced surgical and emergency nurses who thrive in a collaborative and progressive environment.
The hospital is part of a wider veterinary network, providing access to clinical support, leadership development opportunities, and collaboration with specialists across multiple locations.
We are seeking a Specialist Small Animal Surgeon – ECVS/ACVS/FANZCVS to join the founding referral team and play a key role in shaping the surgical service as the hospital launches.
This is a rare opportunity to be involved from the beginning, helping build a surgical department within a modern referral setting while contributing to a collaborative and supportive clinical culture.
The caseload will include a broad range of complex soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures, supported by strong emergency and critical care services ensuring continuity of care for surgical patients.
As the service grows, there will also be opportunities to mentor junior clinicians, contribute to teaching, and help develop future internship or residency pathways.
The role offers flexibility to design a position that is both clinically rewarding and sustainable, with supportive rostering and strong nursing assistance allowing surgeons to focus on delivering high-quality care.
You will be:
A Board-Certified Specialist (ACVS/ECVS) or FANZCVS Fellow in Small Animal Surgery, or
A Residency-trained surgeon eligible for specialist registration in Victoria
In addition, you will:
Enjoy working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment
Be passionate about delivering high standards of patient care
Be a strong communicator who builds relationships with colleagues, clients, and referring veterinarians
Have an interest in mentoring, teaching, or contributing to the development of a growing referral service
The ideal candidate values teamwork, professionalism, and a supportive workplace culture where high clinical standards and a positive working environment go hand in hand.
